Class 9 Biology: Syllabus, Paper Pattern and Free Resources

Class 9 Biology runs to eleven chapters, beginning with the science of biology itself and working through the levels of organisation, cell structure and function, biodiversity and classification, and the major systems studied at this level. It is often treated as the easiest of the three sciences, which is exactly why students underperform in it: the content is readable, so it gets read rather than practised, and the diagrams and definitions that carry the marks never get written out.

The written paper carries 60 marks over 2 hours 10 minutes, with twelve marks of multiple-choice, short-answer sections where you choose five parts from each question, and detailed questions at the end. Diagrams matter more here than in any other science subject at this level, and a labelled diagram drawn properly will usually earn marks that a paragraph describing the same thing will not.

Everything linked below is free. The chapter online tests are the quickest way to find your weak spots, because they mark themselves and show an explanation under every question the moment you submit. Use them chapter by chapter first, then move to the full guess papers once two or three chapters feel secure.
