Class 9 Chemistry: Syllabus, Paper Pattern and Free Resources

Class 9 Chemistry covers thirteen chapters, moving from the states of matter and atomic structure through chemical bonding, stoichiometry, energetics, equilibria and acid-base chemistry, then on to the periodic table, group properties, environmental chemistry and hydrocarbons, before finishing with the two practical-facing chapters on empirical data and laboratory skills. The early chapters are where most students decide whether they find the subject manageable, because stoichiometry and bonding underpin almost everything that follows.

The subject rewards precision more than memorisation. Formulas have to balance, units have to be right, and definitions have to be stated the way the textbook states them. A great deal of the marking in chemistry comes down to whether an answer says exactly what it needs to say rather than approximately the right thing.

The resources collected below are free and need no sign-up. Work through a chapter in the book first, then use the solved exercise notes for that chapter to check your written answers, and finish with the chapter test paper to see whether you can reproduce them without looking. Anything you could not answer goes on a list, and that list is what you revise before the exam rather than the whole book again.
