This 9th class maths chapter 3 online test covers Chapter 3 of the Class 9 Mathematics course, Sets and Functions. It has 25 multiple-choice questions, shown one at a time, and it marks itself the moment you finish. There is no timer and no sign-up. When you press finish you get your score, and every question is shown again with your answer, the correct option and a short explanation of why that option is right. An Urdu medium version of the same test is given further down this page.
What Chapter 3 Covers
The 25 questions are spread across the whole unit rather than one exercise, so the test is a fair check of whether you are ready for a class test or the annual paper:
- Set notation — tabular form, descriptive form and set-builder form, including sets such as {1, 1/3, 1/5, 1/7, …}.
- Power sets — why a set with m elements has 2m subsets, and what P(A) is when A is empty.
- Operations on sets — union, intersection, difference and complement, with Venn diagrams.
- De Morgan laws — (A ∩ B)′ and (A ∪ B)′.
- Counting formulas — n(A ∪ B) = n(A) + n(B) − n(A ∩ B), and word problems about students playing cricket and hockey.
- Cartesian products and relations — ordered pairs, A × B, and the domain of a relation.
- Functions — evaluating f(x), solving f(x) = k for x, and recognising linear and quadratic functions.
Revise These Before You Start
Most marks in this unit are lost on the same few points. Read through these once before attempting the test:
- If n(S) = m then the power set has 2m elements. The power set of the empty set is {∅}, which has one element, not none.
- n(A ∪ B) = n(A) + n(B) − n(A ∩ B). Rearrange it to find the intersection when the union is given.
- De Morgan: (A ∩ B)′ = A′ ∪ B′ and (A ∪ B)′ = A′ ∩ B′. The operation flips when you take the complement.
- If A has p elements and B has q elements, then A × B has p × q ordered pairs.
- The set {0} is not empty — it contains one element, the number zero. The empty set is { } or ∅.
- To evaluate f(a + 1), substitute the whole bracket for x and expand carefully.
How the Test Works
- 25 questions, one at a time, with Next and Previous buttons.
- No timer, so you can work a calculation out on paper before answering.
- Automatic marking the moment you finish.
- Answer review with the correct option and an explanation for every question.
- Retake as many times as you like, and your score is not stored anywhere.
Start the Chapter 3 Online Test
Draw a Venn diagram for anything involving union, intersection or a word problem — it turns most of these questions into counting. Keep a pen and rough paper beside you: the numerical questions are quick, but they are much easier to get right written down than in your head. Aim for 20 out of 25 or better before you move on to the next unit.
Chapter 3 Online Test — Urdu Medium
Urdu medium students can attempt the same Chapter 3 test with every question, option and explanation written in Urdu. It behaves exactly like the English test above: 25 questions one at a time, no timer, and a full answer review at the end.
Mistakes Students Make in This Unit
When you look through your answer review, check whether any of your wrong answers came from these:
- Treating {0} as the empty set.
- Saying the power set of the empty set has no elements, when it has exactly one.
- Forgetting to subtract the intersection in the union formula, which double counts the overlap.
- Applying De Morgan without flipping union to intersection.
- Substituting only the a in f(a + 1) and ignoring the + 1.
What to Do After the Test
A score on its own teaches you very little. Go through the answer review properly and write down the number of every question you got wrong, along with the topic it came from. If two or three of them come from the same section of the unit, that section is what you revise next — not the whole chapter again. Then retake the test a day or two later rather than immediately, because answering correctly from memory is not the same as understanding it. Once you are consistently scoring above 20, move on and come back to this test in your final week of revision.
Frequently Asked Questions
How many elements does a power set have?
Two to the power of the number of elements in the original set. A set with 2 elements, such as {9, 11}, has a power set with 22 = 4 elements, counting the empty set and the set itself.
What do De Morgan laws actually say?
That the complement of an intersection is the union of the complements, and the complement of a union is the intersection of the complements. In short, take the complement of each set and swap the symbol.
Is the empty set the same as {0}?
No. The empty set contains nothing at all and is written { } or ∅. The set {0} contains one thing, the number zero, so it has one element.
Is this test free?
Yes. There is no sign-up, no limit on retakes and nothing is locked. Your score is not saved or shared.
