9th Class Physics Chapter 6 Online Test: 25 MCQs with Answers

This 9th class physics chapter 6 online test covers Chapter 6 of the Class 9 Physics course, Mechanical Properties of Matter. It has 25 multiple-choice questions, shown one at a time, and it marks itself as soon as you finish. There is no timer and no sign-up. When you press finish you get your score, and every question is shown again with your answer, the correct option and a short explanation of why that option is right. An Urdu medium version of the same test is given further down this page.

What Chapter 6 Covers

The questions are spread across the whole chapter rather than one section, so the test is a fair check of whether you are ready for a class test or the annual paper:

  • Density — ρ = m ÷ V, finding the density of milk or of an irregular solid by displacement, and why density describes a material rather than an object.
  • Pressure — P = F ÷ A, the pressure a brick exerts on each of its faces, and why sharp pebbles hurt bare feet while elephants need broad feet.
  • Pressure in liquids — P = ρgh, the pressure on a diver at depth, and why pressure depends on depth and density rather than on the shape of the container.
  • Atmospheric pressure — the force of the atmosphere on a surface, the mercury barometer at 76 cm, why water would need a column about ten metres high, and what a falling barometer reading means for the weather.
  • Pascal’s law — the hydraulic press and hydraulic brakes, and how a small force on a small piston lifts a large load.
  • Elasticity and Hooke’s law — the spring constant k = F ÷ x, the energy stored in a compressed spring, and why springs are made of steel.

Revise These Before You Start

Most marks in this chapter are lost on the same few points. Read through these once before attempting the test:

  • ρ = m ÷ V. Convert carefully: 1 litre is 0.001 m³, and 1 g cm⁻³ equals 1000 kg m⁻³.
  • P = F ÷ A, so for a fixed force the pressure is greatest on the smallest face.
  • Pressure in a liquid P = ρgh depends only on depth, density and gravity, never on the shape or width of the container.
  • In a hydraulic system the pressure is the same throughout, so F₁ ÷ A₁ = F₂ ÷ A₂, and a large piston gives a proportionally larger force.
  • Spring constant k = F ÷ x. A load of 40 N stretching a spring by 20 mm gives k = 2000 N m⁻¹, which is 2 kN m⁻¹.
  • Mercury is used in barometers because it is about 13.6 times denser than water, so the column is 76 cm instead of about 10.3 m.

How the Test Works

  • 25 questions, one at a time, with Next and Previous buttons.
  • No timer, so you can work a numerical out on paper before answering.
  • Automatic marking the moment you finish.
  • Answer review with the correct option and an explanation for every question.
  • Retake as many times as you like, and your score is not stored anywhere.

Chapter 6 is where unit conversion decides your score, so write every quantity in SI units before you substitute into a formula. Keep a pen and rough paper beside you: the numerical questions are quick, but they are much easier to get right written down than in your head. Aim for 20 out of 25 or better before you move on to the next chapter.

Mistakes Students Make in This Chapter

When you check your answer review, see whether any of your wrong answers came from these. They account for most of the marks lost in this chapter:

  • Leaving areas in cm² or volumes in cm³ instead of converting into m² and m³.
  • Assuming a wider container means greater pressure at the bottom.
  • Mixing up force and pressure when comparing the faces of a brick.
  • Using the diameter instead of the area when comparing hydraulic pistons; the area depends on the square of the radius.
  • Reading the spring extension in millimetres and using it directly as metres in k = F ÷ x.

What to Do After the Test

Do not close the page as soon as you see your score. Read the explanation under every question you got wrong, then open that topic in your textbook and work through the solved example beside it. Write the questions you missed on a single sheet and attempt the test again the next day: the second score tells you what you have actually learned, while the first only tells you what you recognised. If you scored below 15, work through the chapter again before moving on, because the later chapters in Physics build directly on this one.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why is density called a property of a material rather than of an object?

Because it does not change with size. A small iron nail and a large iron bar have very different masses and volumes, but the same density, since mass and volume increase together in the same ratio.

How does a hydraulic press lift a heavy load with a small force?

Pascal’s law says the pressure applied to an enclosed liquid is transmitted equally in all directions. The same pressure acting on a much larger piston area produces a much larger force, so a small push on the small piston lifts a heavy load.

Why is mercury used in a barometer instead of water?

Mercury is about 13.6 times denser than water, so atmospheric pressure supports a column only about 76 cm high. A water barometer would need a tube over ten metres tall, which is impractical.
