9th Class Physics Chapter 7 Online Test: 25 MCQs with Answers

This 9th class physics chapter 7 online test covers Chapter 7 of the Class 9 Physics course, Thermal Properties of Matter. It has 25 multiple-choice questions, shown one at a time, and it marks itself as soon as you finish. There is no timer and no sign-up. When you press finish you get your score, and every question is shown again with your answer, the correct option and a short explanation of why that option is right. An Urdu medium version of the same test is given further down this page.

What Chapter 7 Covers

The questions are spread across the whole chapter rather than one section, so the test is a fair check of whether you are ready for a class test or the annual paper:

  • Kinetic molecular model — how molecules move in solids, liquids and gases, and why a liquid has a definite volume but no definite shape.
  • Plasma — the state in which atoms exist as ions and electrons, and why the Sun and most stars are made of it.
  • Temperature and heat — what temperature actually measures, what heat is, and why the two are not the same thing.
  • Internal energy — the sum of the kinetic and potential energies of the molecules of a body.
  • Temperature scales — Celsius, Fahrenheit and Kelvin, converting between them, the two fixed points, and the temperature that reads the same on Celsius and Fahrenheit.
  • Absolute zero — the lowest possible temperature and its value on both scales.
  • Thermometers — liquid-in-glass design, why the bulb wall is thin, the range of a clinical thermometer, the useful range of mercury, the drawback of alcohol, and where a thermocouple is the better choice.

Revise These Before You Start

Most marks in this chapter are lost on the same few points. Read through these once before attempting the test:

  • K = °C + 273. So 30 °C is 303 K, and the melting point of ice, 0 °C, is 273 K.
  • °F = 1.8 × °C + 32. So 30 °C is 86 °F, and normal body temperature 98.6 °F is 37 °C.
  • The two scales read the same at −40°, which is a favourite examination question.
  • Absolute zero is −273 °C, or 0 K, the lowest temperature possible in the universe.
  • Temperature measures the average kinetic energy of molecules; heat is the energy that flows from a hotter body to a colder one.
  • Mercury is useful from about −39 °C to 357 °C, while alcohol works at lower temperatures but boils early and must be coloured to be visible.

How the Test Works

  • 25 questions, one at a time, with Next and Previous buttons.
  • No timer, so you can work a numerical out on paper before answering.
  • Automatic marking the moment you finish.
  • Answer review with the correct option and an explanation for every question.
  • Retake as many times as you like, and your score is not stored anywhere.

Start the Chapter 7 Online Test

Chapter 7 is mostly conversions and definitions, so learn the two conversion formulas properly and the rest of the chapter follows. Keep a pen and rough paper beside you: the numerical questions are quick, but they are much easier to get right written down than in your head. Aim for 20 out of 25 or better before you move on to the next chapter.

Mistakes Students Make in This Chapter

When you check your answer review, see whether any of your wrong answers came from these. They account for most of the marks lost in this chapter:

  • Subtracting 273 when converting Celsius into Kelvin instead of adding it.
  • Treating heat and temperature as the same quantity.
  • Forgetting that the Fahrenheit scale divides the gap between the fixed points into 180 parts, not 100.
  • Assuming a thermometer with smaller divisions has a wider range, when it is actually more sensitive over a narrower one.
  • Saying plasma is simply a very hot gas without mentioning the ions and free electrons that make it conduct.

What to Do After the Test

Do not close the page as soon as you see your score. Read the explanation under every question you got wrong, then open that topic in your textbook and work through the solved example beside it. Write the questions you missed on a single sheet and attempt the test again the next day: the second score tells you what you have actually learned, while the first only tells you what you recognised. If you scored below 15, work through the chapter again before moving on, because the later chapters in Physics build directly on this one.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between heat and temperature?

Temperature tells you how hot a body is, and it measures the average kinetic energy of its molecules. Heat is energy in transit, flowing from the hotter body to the colder one. A bucket of warm water holds far more heat than a spark, even though the spark is at a much higher temperature.

What is absolute zero?

It is the lowest temperature possible, −273 °C or 0 K. At that point molecular motion is at its minimum, and no substance can be cooled below it.

Why is the bulb of a thermometer made with a thin wall?

So that heat passes quickly through the glass into the liquid inside. A thin wall makes the thermometer respond faster and show the correct reading sooner.
