9th Class Chemistry Chapter 5 Online Test: 25 MCQs with Answers

This 9th class chemistry chapter 5 online test covers Chapter 5 of the Class 9 Chemistry course, Energetics. It has 25 multiple-choice questions, shown one at a time, and it marks itself the moment you finish. There is no timer and no sign-up. When you press finish you get your score, and every question is shown again with your answer, the correct option and a short explanation of why that option is right. An Urdu medium version of the same test is further down this page.

What the 25 Questions Test

The questions are spread across the whole of Chapter 5 rather than one section, and most of them ask you to apply something rather than simply recall it. Expect to be doing the following:

  • Deciding whether a described reaction is exothermic or endothermic.
  • Matching the sign of the enthalpy change to the direction of heat flow.
  • Reading an energy level diagram and identifying activation energy on it.
  • Saying what a catalyst does and, just as importantly, what it does not do.
  • Distinguishing heat of formation, combustion and neutralisation.
  • Deciding whether a step absorbs or releases energy when bonds break or form.

Quick Recall Before You Start

These are the points Energetics questions turn on most often. Read them once, then begin:

  • Exothermic means heat out and a negative enthalpy change; endothermic is the reverse.
  • Breaking bonds costs energy; making bonds releases it.
  • A catalyst lowers activation energy and leaves the enthalpy change untouched.
  • Heat of neutralisation refers specifically to acid reacting with base to give water.

Traps Hidden in the Wrong Options

In a well-built multiple-choice test the wrong answers are not random; each one is placed there because students genuinely believe it. In this chapter look out for:

  • A positive enthalpy change attached to an exothermic reaction.
  • A catalyst described as changing the overall energy released.
  • Bond breaking described as releasing energy.

How the Test Works

  • 25 questions, one at a time, with Next and Previous buttons.
  • No timer, so you can work a calculation out on paper first.
  • Automatic marking as soon as you finish.
  • Answer review showing the correct option and an explanation for every question.
  • Retake as often as you like; your score is not stored anywhere.

Start the Chapter 5 Online Test

Chapter 5 turns on signs. Decide first whether heat goes in or out, and the sign of the enthalpy change follows. Read each question to the end before looking at the options, because one word such as “only”, “always” or “molten” can decide which answer is correct. Aim for 20 out of 25 or better before moving on.

What to Do With Your Score

The score matters less than the review that follows it. Note the topic behind each wrong answer rather than the question number, and if several come from one part of the chapter, revise that part alone. For Chapter 5 the part worth securing first is energy level diagrams, which carry marks in the written paper as well. Retake the test a day or two later rather than straight away, then move to the written paper, where you have to produce the answer instead of recognising it.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I tell an exothermic reaction from an endothermic one in a question?

Look for where the heat goes. If the surroundings get warmer, or the enthalpy change is negative, it is exothermic. If the container feels cold, or the value is positive, it is endothermic.

Does a catalyst change how much energy a reaction gives out?

No. A catalyst only lowers the activation energy, so the reaction gets going more easily. The overall enthalpy change is exactly the same with or without it.

Is this test free?

Yes. There is no sign-up, no limit on retakes and nothing is locked. Your score is not saved or shared.
