This 9th class maths chapter 10 online test covers Chapter 10 of the Class 9 Mathematics course, Graphs of Functions. It has 25 multiple-choice questions, shown one at a time, and it marks itself the moment you finish. There is no timer and no sign-up. When you press finish you get your score, and every question is shown again with your answer, the correct option and a short explanation of why that option is right. An Urdu medium version of the same test is given further down this page.
What Chapter 10 Covers
The 25 questions are spread across the whole unit rather than one exercise, so the test is a fair check of whether you are ready for a class test or the annual paper:
- Linear graphs — slope-intercept form, gradient, and finding x and y-intercepts of lines such as y = 2x − 1.
- Vertical and horizontal lines — why x = 5 is a line parallel to the y-axis.
- Quadratic graphs — the general form y = ax2 + bx + c, the parabola shape, and which way it opens.
- Cubic graphs — the general form, where y = x3 cuts the x-axis, and the number of turning points.
- Reciprocal graphs — the form y = k/x, its two branches, and asymptotes.
- Exponential graphs — recognising y = 5x and the graph of 3x, and the value of e.
- Gradients and tangents — the gradient between two points, what a tangent is, and real-life linear models such as a salary function.
Revise These Before You Start
Most marks in this unit are lost on the same few points. Read through these once before attempting the test:
- In y = mx + c, m is the gradient and c is the y-intercept. Set y = 0 to find the x-intercept.
- A parabola opens upwards when a is positive and downwards when a is negative, so y = −x2 + 5 opens downwards.
- A cubic graph has at most two turning points; a quadratic has exactly one.
- An asymptote is a line the curve approaches ever more closely but never actually touches.
- The graph of y = 1/x has two branches, lying in the first and third quadrants when k is positive.
- The gradient between two points is (y₂ − y₁)/(x₂ − x₁), and e is about 2.72 to two decimal places.
How the Test Works
- 25 questions, one at a time, with Next and Previous buttons.
- No timer, so you can work a calculation out on paper before answering.
- Automatic marking the moment you finish.
- Answer review with the correct option and an explanation for every question.
- Retake as many times as you like, and your score is not stored anywhere.
Start the Chapter 10 Online Test
Sketch the rough shape before checking the options — most questions here are decided by shape and direction rather than by calculation. Keep a pen and rough paper beside you: the numerical questions are quick, but they are much easier to get right written down than in your head. Aim for 20 out of 25 or better before you move on to the next unit.
Chapter 10 Online Test — Urdu Medium
Urdu medium students can attempt the same Chapter 10 test with every question, option and explanation written in Urdu. It behaves exactly like the English test above: 25 questions one at a time, no timer, and a full answer review at the end.
Mistakes Students Make in This Unit
When you look through your answer review, check whether any of your wrong answers came from these:
- Reading x = 5 as a horizontal line when it is vertical.
- Deciding which way a parabola opens from the constant term instead of the sign of a.
- Expecting a cubic to have three turning points.
- Confusing the x-intercept with the y-intercept.
- Inverting the gradient formula and dividing the change in x by the change in y.
What to Do After the Test
A score on its own teaches you very little. Go through the answer review properly and write down the number of every question you got wrong, along with the topic it came from. If two or three of them come from the same section of the unit, that section is what you revise next — not the whole chapter again. Then retake the test a day or two later rather than immediately, because answering correctly from memory is not the same as understanding it. Once you are consistently scoring above 20, move on and come back to this test in your final week of revision.
Frequently Asked Questions
Which way does a parabola open?
Upwards if the coefficient a in y = ax2 + bx + c is positive, downwards if it is negative. The constant term only moves the curve up or down; it does not change the direction.
What is an asymptote?
A straight line that a curve gets closer and closer to without ever reaching it. The graph of y = 1/x has the x-axis and the y-axis as its asymptotes.
How many turning points can a cubic graph have?
At most two. It can also have none, as y = x3 does, but it can never have more than two.
Is this test free?
Yes. There is no sign-up, no limit on retakes and nothing is locked. Your score is not saved or shared.
