This 9th class maths chapter 9 online test covers Chapter 9 of the Class 9 Mathematics course, Similar Figures. It has 25 multiple-choice questions, shown one at a time, and it marks itself the moment you finish. There is no timer and no sign-up. When you press finish you get your score, and every question is shown again with your answer, the correct option and a short explanation of why that option is right. An Urdu medium version of the same test is given further down this page.
What Chapter 9 Covers
The 25 questions are spread across the whole unit rather than one exercise, so the test is a fair check of whether you are ready for a class test or the annual paper:
- Similar polygons — equal corresponding angles and proportional corresponding sides.
- Areas of similar figures — the ratio of areas equals the square of the ratio of corresponding sides.
- Volumes and masses of similar solids — the ratio of volumes equals the cube of the ratio of lengths.
- Interior and exterior angles — the sum of interior angles of an n-sided polygon, each exterior angle of a regular polygon, and why exterior angles always total 360°.
- Finding the number of sides from a given interior or exterior angle.
- Diagonals of a polygon — the formula n(n − 3)/2, and applying it to a 9-sided polygon.
- Regular polygons — rotational symmetry, which polygons tessellate, the area of an equilateral triangle, and properties of parallelograms.
Revise These Before You Start
Most marks in this unit are lost on the same few points. Read through these once before attempting the test:
- Ratio of areas = (ratio of sides)2. Ratio of volumes, capacities and masses = (ratio of lengths)3.
- The exterior angles of any polygon always add up to 360°, so each exterior angle of a regular n-gon is 360°/n.
- The interior angles of an n-sided polygon sum to (n − 2) × 180°.
- A polygon with n sides has n(n − 3)/2 diagonals, so a nonagon has 9 × 6 ÷ 2 = 27.
- Only the equilateral triangle, the square and the regular hexagon tessellate a plane on their own.
- A regular polygon with n sides has rotational symmetry of order n.
How the Test Works
- 25 questions, one at a time, with Next and Previous buttons.
- No timer, so you can work a calculation out on paper before answering.
- Automatic marking the moment you finish.
- Answer review with the correct option and an explanation for every question.
- Retake as many times as you like, and your score is not stored anywhere.
Start the Chapter 9 Online Test
Decide first whether the question is about lengths, areas or volumes — that one decision fixes whether you square, cube or do neither. Keep a pen and rough paper beside you: the numerical questions are quick, but they are much easier to get right written down than in your head. Aim for 20 out of 25 or better before you move on to the next unit.
Chapter 9 Online Test — Urdu Medium
Urdu medium students can attempt the same Chapter 9 test with every question, option and explanation written in Urdu. It behaves exactly like the English test above: 25 questions one at a time, no timer, and a full answer review at the end.
Mistakes Students Make in This Unit
When you look through your answer review, check whether any of your wrong answers came from these:
- Using the plain side ratio for areas instead of squaring it, or for volumes instead of cubing it.
- Using the interior-angle sum formula when the question asks for one angle of a regular polygon.
- Forgetting that the exterior angles total 360° no matter how many sides there are.
- Misremembering the diagonal formula as n(n − 1)/2.
- Assuming any regular polygon tessellates.
What to Do After the Test
A score on its own teaches you very little. Go through the answer review properly and write down the number of every question you got wrong, along with the topic it came from. If two or three of them come from the same section of the unit, that section is what you revise next — not the whole chapter again. Then retake the test a day or two later rather than immediately, because answering correctly from memory is not the same as understanding it. Once you are consistently scoring above 20, move on and come back to this test in your final week of revision.
Frequently Asked Questions
If two similar shapes have sides in the ratio 3:5, what is the ratio of their areas?
Nine to twenty-five, because the area ratio is the square of the side ratio. If the shapes were solids, the volume ratio would be 27:125, the cube of the side ratio.
How do I find the number of sides from an exterior angle?
Divide 360° by the exterior angle. An exterior angle of 30° gives 360 ÷ 30 = 12 sides.
How many diagonals does a polygon have?
n(n − 3)/2, where n is the number of sides. Each vertex joins to all the others except itself and its two neighbours, and dividing by two stops each diagonal being counted twice.
Is this test free?
Yes. There is no sign-up, no limit on retakes and nothing is locked. Your score is not saved or shared.
