This 9th class physics chapter 2 online test covers Chapter 2 of the Class 9 Physics course, Kinematics. It has 25 multiple-choice questions, shown one at a time, and it marks itself as soon as you finish. There is no timer and no sign-up. When you press finish you get your score, and every question is shown again with your answer, the correct option and a short explanation of why that option is right. An Urdu medium version of the same test is given further down this page.
What Chapter 2 Covers
The questions are spread across the whole chapter rather than one section, so the test is a fair check of whether you are ready for a class test or the annual paper:
- Scalars and vectors — which quantities have direction, and adding vectors by the head-to-tail rule.
- Distance and displacement — why their ratio matters, and how a speedometer reading differs from displacement on a journey.
- Speed, velocity and acceleration — average speed, converting km h⁻¹ into m s⁻¹, and finding acceleration from a change of velocity.
- Equations of motion — bodies starting from rest, distance covered in a given second, and vertical motion under gravity.
- Graphs of motion — the gradient of a distance-time graph, the area under a speed-time graph, and what a horizontal or curved line tells you.
- Free fall — a stone dropped from a tower, an arrow thrown upwards, and what happens to velocity and acceleration at the highest point.
- Types of motion — translatory, rotatory and vibratory, and linear, random and circular motion with everyday examples.
- Terminal velocity — a paratrooper after the parachute opens.
Revise These Before You Start
Most marks in this chapter are lost on the same few points. Read through these once before attempting the test:
- To convert km h⁻¹ into m s⁻¹, divide by 3.6. So 144 km h⁻¹ is 40 m s⁻¹ and 252 km h⁻¹ is 70 m s⁻¹.
- a = (vf − vᵢ) ÷ t, and for a body starting from rest vᵢ = 0, which simplifies most numericals in this chapter.
- The gradient of a distance-time graph gives speed; the area under a speed-time graph gives distance covered.
- In free fall near the Earth, take g = 10 m s⁻² unless the question says otherwise. Going up, the body decelerates at 10 m s⁻².
- At the highest point of a vertical throw the velocity is zero but the acceleration is still g, directed downwards.
- In uniform circular motion the speed is constant but the velocity is not, because the direction keeps changing.
How the Test Works
- 25 questions, one at a time, with Next and Previous buttons.
- No timer, so you can work a numerical out on paper before answering.
- Automatic marking the moment you finish.
- Answer review with the correct option and an explanation for every question.
- Retake as many times as you like, and your score is not stored anywhere.
Start the Chapter 2 Online Test
Chapter 2 is almost entirely numerical, so the marks go to whoever converts units correctly and reads graphs the right way round. Keep a pen and rough paper beside you: the numerical questions are quick, but they are much easier to get right written down than in your head. Aim for 20 out of 25 or better before you move on to the next chapter.
Chapter 2 Online Test — Urdu Medium
Urdu medium students can attempt the same Chapter 2 test with every question, option and explanation written in Urdu. It behaves exactly like the English test above: 25 questions one at a time, no timer, and a full answer review at the end.
Mistakes Students Make in This Chapter
When you check your answer review, see whether any of your wrong answers came from these. They account for most of the marks lost in this chapter:
- Dividing by 3.6 in the wrong direction when converting between km h⁻¹ and m s⁻¹.
- Using distance in place of displacement, or treating the speedometer reading as displacement.
- Saying that acceleration is zero at the highest point of a throw, when it is the velocity that is zero.
- Reading the area under a distance-time graph, or the gradient of a speed-time graph, instead of the other way round.
- Assuming a body moving in a circle at constant speed has constant velocity.
What to Do After the Test
Do not close the page as soon as you see your score. Read the explanation under every question you got wrong, then open that topic in your textbook and work through the solved example beside it. Write the questions you missed on a single sheet and attempt the test again the next day: the second score tells you what you have actually learned, while the first only tells you what you recognised. If you scored below 15, work through the chapter again before moving on, because the later chapters in Physics build directly on this one.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between distance and displacement?
Distance is the whole length of the path travelled and has no direction. Displacement is the straight line from the starting point to the finishing point, with a direction. A car that drives 320 km from Lahore to Multan and back to Lahore has covered a large distance but zero displacement.
What does the area under a speed-time graph represent?
It gives the distance covered in that interval. For a straight-line graph you can work it out as the area of a rectangle or a triangle, which is quicker than using the equations of motion.
Is a body in circular motion accelerating if its speed does not change?
Yes. Velocity includes direction, and in circular motion the direction changes at every instant, so the velocity changes and the body is accelerating even when the speed reading stays the same.
